04.10.2013. Alex Scarrow Visit

Dear Parents/Carers

We were very excited to welcome author, Alex Scarrow, to talk to pupils from Years 7 and 8 about his popular books, the ‘TimeRiders’ series.

Alex talked to a hall full of fascinated students for an hour, explaining how he wrote the books, showing a video book trailer and answering questions.

Competitions for students to design book covers and write time travel short stories had been run in school and Alex presented the winners with their prizes. Two lucky classes then had the opportunity to take part in a writing workshops with Alex. They came away with top tips for creating characters, and some unusual story ideas.

Organised by Miss Crosby, the school’s Literacy Coordinator, with lots of publicity from staff in the history department, Alex’s visit was a huge success. We have never seen so many students queuing to have their books signed. Take a look at some of Alex’s book trailers on YouTube to see why our students were so inspired!
